Titan Academy seniors took the stage Thursday evening in an emotional and heartfelt tradition honoring the people who helped them reach graduation. The Robing Ceremony, held May 1, allowed each participating senior to recognize two individuals—excluding parents—who made a meaningful impact on their educational journey.
“This is an event that was started by the former High Point Academy administrators,” said Kimberly Hendrix-Rathbone, senior class sponsor. “In considering what traditions to continue after the transition to TBP, the robing ceremony stood out as one we should keep because it is so meaningful.”
The ceremony, co-sponsored by the National Honor Society, featured a full auditorium and dozens of personalized tributes. Students walked the stage with their chosen "robers" while pre-recorded speeches played overhead, explaining the influence of each honoree. The robers then placed the seniors’ graduation robes and cords on them in front of proud families, peers and staff.
“It reminds them of the importance of gratitude, while also reminding them that they always have someone to turn to when the going gets tough,” Hendrix-Rathbone said.
The National Honor Society, led by sponsor Amber Nowell, played a crucial role in organizing the event. Junior Reese Springer coordinated the NHS setup team, while junior Shelby Diner ran the event’s audio and visuals.
For faculty and staff, the ceremony offered a rare moment of reflection and recognition. “It reminds us that even though our work is often thankless, we are indeed making a positive difference in the lives of our students,” Hendrix-Rathbone said. “For me personally, there is nothing more important than that.”
The evening also featured tri-fold poster displays showcasing each senior’s life—from baby photos and childhood memories to snapshots of extracurricular achievements. One particularly moving moment came when the Class of 2024 made a surprise presentation honoring retiring math teacher Anthony Turner.
“He is their beloved Pre-Cal and Algebra II teacher,” Hendrix-Rathbone said. “It meant a great deal to the seniors to be able to recognize him.”
Reflecting on the ceremony and the class she’s helped lead, Hendrix-Rathbone left the seniors with a lasting message: “I hope that they know that no matter where their paths take them, that there will always be a road that leads to me and the other dedicated people who have walked with them and seen them grow over the years. We will always be here for them.” |
