Educators and administrators at Trinity Basin Preparatory utilize current research to help ensure student achievement. Our teachers find success in using a variety of teaching methods, strategies, and services to provide our students with the platform necessary to grow academically.
Positive Discipline Management
The primary goal of our discipline management model is safety. We believe discipline and punishment are not the same. Our schools follow a progressive discipline model. Disciplinary action includes engaging students in activities that reflect desirable character traits. While some cases do require a quick and punitive reaction, for the most part, we use the student's misbehavior as an opportunity to teach correct behavior. We encourage our teachers to build positive relationships with students, which fosters a sense of belonging and increased academic success.
A Note About Our Curriculum For PreK - 5th Grade:
Daily Five/Math Enrichment - Our schedule affords us the opportunity to meet with students twice daily for Language Arts and Math instruction. Besides the traditional ELA and Math blocks, students engage in learner-centered, activity-oriented experiences in daily five reading and math enrichment in certain grade levels. Activities during these times target individual student needs in reading and math by providing effective, focused instruction.
Learning Centers/Work Stations - Centers and stations are important in maintaining student engagement within the content and target several different modes of learning. Frequent use of hands-on activities coupled with manipulatives helps students develop a firmer conceptual foundation in thinking and reasoning skills.
Additional Services - Services provided consist of Special Education and Response to Intervention teams who offer targeted interventions in the classroom as well as occasional pullout services. Students and teachers also have the support of highly qualified classroom instructional aides, many of whom are bilingual. All teachers in our district must be ESL or Bilingual certified.
A Note About Our Curriculum In Grades 6th - 8th:

English Language Arts and Reading - Our English Language Arts department is comprised of three main components: excellent classroom instruction that focuses on the needs of our English Language Learners, differentiated novels using literature circles and guided reading for students struggling with basic reading skills. Our core curriculum comes from Holt Literature which had such reputable contributors as Carol Ann Tomlinson and Robert Marzano. This curriculum integrates a myriad of instructional tools necessary to reach the 21ˢᵗ century students in our middle school classrooms.
Math - Our 6ᵗʰ - 8ᵗʰ grade program strives to be an interactive and engaging environment that challenges our students. Using Math Explorations, an instructional tool developed by Texas State University - San Marcos, we provide rigorous instruction that prepares our students for success. We encourage our teachers to think outside of the box in order to balance hands-on, inquiry-based learning with exceptional explicit instruction. We offer pre-algebra in 7ᵗʰ grade and Algebra I in 8ᵗʰ grade so that students may begin earning high school math credit.
Science - The science program is growing to be a significant, hands-on, full inquiry program. Students investigate the curriculum utilizing resources from STEMscopes™, a TEA approved instructional resource developed by Rice University, among various other resources, to guide their development into the scientists of tomorrow.
Social Studies - The success of our Social Studies program is based on the interaction of the student with the content. It is not unusual to see groups of students in our hallways reenacting some of the key events that have changed our world. Our lessons are taught by creative, forward-thinking educators who strive to make history relevant to students using a variety of instructional methods and resources.
Art - All students in 8ᵗʰ grade take Art I, earning them a high school credit and exposure to excellent art instruction with a small teacher to student ratio. Students are taught basic skills that they then build on to create incredible artwork. Our teachers work hard to integrate cross-curricular activities as much as possible so that students are continuously making connections and reinforcing skills.
