A Quick Guide to our Application and Lottery Process

We accept applications all year to be entered into our lottery, which randomly selects students for open spots at each TBP campus and grade level. The lottery takes place during the first day of November, and if your child is selected, you'll receive an email with your spot offer — just click the link to accept, and we'll send you everything you need to complete enrollment through Skyward Q. Check out our Enrollment Timeline below to see all the important dates, from Open Enrollment all the way to the first day of school in August!

1. The Lottery Process

Why Charter Schools Use Lottery

Charter schools in Texas, like Trinity Basin Preparatory, often have more applicants than available spots for certain grades or campuses. To ensure the admission process is fair and equitable, state law requires that when demand exceeds capacity, students are selected randomly through a lottery. This prevents bias and gives every applicant an equal chance at enrollment.

How the Lottery Works

Submit your application at your earliest convenience and it will be entered into the lottery.

The lottery randomly selects students for available seats in each grade and at each campus. Students not selected are typically placed on a waitlist in the order they were drawn. If spots open later, waitlisted families may be offered enrollment.

*The process is fully transparent to ensure fairness.

Timeline

The lottery takes place during the first day of November. Selected families are notified shortly after the lottery. Accepted students complete their enrollment for the upcoming 2026-27 school year.

*For Returning Students

our annual process for re-enrollment

You only need to complete one easy step in Skyward Q. The process takes about 15 minutes — just review and update your family’s information to make sure everything is current. Once completed, your child’s seat for the next school year is secured and ready for the first day of school in August.

*Completing re-enrollment early ensures your child’s spot, helps us plan effectively, and sets your family up for a smooth start in August.

Not Returning for the Next School Year

If your child will not be returning for the 2026–27 school year, please complete the Not Returning Form. Please note that submitting this form will release your child's seat for the upcoming school year.

If your family decides to return later, your child will need to submit a new application, all required documents, and may be placed on a waitlist depending on availability.

2. The Waitlist

For when there are More Applications than spots

If more families apply than there are available spots, unselected children will be placed on a waitlist. When a spot opens up, the next family on the list will receive an email offer — be sure to respond quickly, as spots are offered to the next family if not accepted in time. The waitlist stays open until all spots are filled or the school year begins, so we recommend checking your email regularly to avoid missing your opportunity.

3. Enrollment Registration

Create a Skyward q account

Accepting your child's spot is just the beginning! After accepting, you'll receive an email with instructions to complete the state-required enrollment registration through Skyward Q. This includes creating an account for your child and filling out all required forms. Make sure to have the following documents ready in digital form (scanned or photographed):

  • Child's Birth Certificate or Passport
  • Immunization Records
  • Parent or Guardian Photo ID (legal guardianship documents if applicable)
  • Child's Social Security Card (preferred)

*Pre-Kinder Applications

application information

Pre-K applications are open year round, and all applications submitted will enter the lottery the first day of November. For PK3, your child must turn 3 years old by September 1st. For PK4, your child must turn 4 years old by September 1st and meet the state eligibility requirements for free Pre-K.

After applying, families will receive either a pre-offer or waitlist placement. Starting in April 2026, families with pre-offers will verify their child's eligibility and receive a final offer. Once confirmed eligible, you'll receive instructions to complete enrollment through Skyward Q for the 2026–27 school year.

Students who don't meet state eligibility requirements will be placed on a non-eligible waitlist. Any remaining spots after eligible students are placed may be offered to non-eligible students. Stay in touch with our Enrollment Department for updates.
